Why Pity Yourself

Ever felt like you just can’t get anything you want? That somehow in your life, you feel like you’ve given your everything and still nothing happens and why do others just hit into those things so easily? Or maybe you feel like you are just a nobody that deserves nothing?

Well, you aren't alone! As a newbie in the corporate world, I struggle a lot in this area. These questions really became my questions. I felt like my name was the very last on the list- being the least. And with the things that I do, I feel like I don't deserve what I'm getting.  I started to wonder if am I really supposed to be in the place where I am now. It seems like I'm nothing and I'll never get anything. I even covet those what other people have and what they could have. In short- I pitied myself.

The feeling was horrible! But I thank God, because it is in these times that when you call upon Him, that He would surely respond to give you peace and comfort. And with that, God was able to make me realize several things and make me remember His promises. And here are the best of my realizations and reminders on how to cope up in times like this:

  • Have a thankful attitude.

Instead of counting the things that you don’t have, why not count the things that you have. Better yet, count those that money can’t buy. Surely, you are well blessed! Even try to be thankful if others also receive their blessings. God surely has a purpose why He blessed those people.

  • Remember that your reward is in heaven.

If you truly believe in God, you know that your reward isn't here on earth but it’s in heaven.  If you’ll read Psalm 73, you could see that the Psalmist talks about how the wicked people get all the best in the world while those who believes in God have to endure a lot of sufferings. Thinking about the situation, it is already a big blessing for He allows other people to gain the riches of the world to mold us, His children. You see, other people find their own securities in their material wealth but for us, we place our strength in the Lord, knowing that in everything, He would be with us, providing for us and protecting us.

  • Trust God's Heart

If in this moment you find it hard to trust God, I strongly encourage you to do so. Our minds are very very limited, but God’s isn’t! We only see our present struggles but God already knows what will happen, you just got to keep on holding on.  I could remember a song that goes “Like tapestry, He’s weaving you and me, to someday be just like Him. God is too wise to be mistaken, God is too good to be unkind. So when you don’t understand, when you don’t see His plan when you can’t trace his hand, TRUST HIS HEART.”

So why pity yourself, when you know that God is in you and He has great plans for you?  May you always remember this promise of the Lord:

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." -Jeremiah 29:11
